The modern standard for powerlifting. Calculate your DOTS score to compare your strength against any lifter, fairly accounting for both gender and bodyweight.
Follow the exact steps to get your result instantly and privately.
The DOTS formula uses mathematically distinct coefficients for men and women. Choose whether you'll input weight in pounds or kilograms.
The DOTS (Dynamic Objective Team Scoring) system was developed to replace the aging Wilks formula. Using a massive dataset of recent powerlifting results from around the world, DOTS provides a statistically tighter correlation between bodyweight and strength. Like Wilks, it involves multiplying the lifter's total by a calculated coefficient, which is derived from a 4th-order polynomial equation.

Coefficient = 500 / (A + Bx + Cx² + Dx³ + Ex⁴)
Where x is bodyweight in kilograms.
A, B, C, D, E are unique constants for men and women.A 90kg male with a 650kg total would have a DOTS coefficient of roughly 0.637. His score is 650 × 0.637 = 414.05 DOTS.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Lifter A — 75kg Male | 600kg total | DOTS ≈ 427.6 |
| Lifter B — 57kg Female | 380kg total | DOTS ≈ 450.9 |
| Lifter C — 105kg Male | 750kg total | DOTS ≈ 448.9 |
DOTS fixes the historic bias that Wilks had against middleweight lifters.
Major federations like the USPA and WRPF have adopted DOTS as their official scoring system.
A 400 DOTS score marks you as highly competitive, while hitting 500 places you among the elite.

To calculate DOTS score in powerlifting, you need your gender, bodyweight, and total weight lifted. Simply enter these into our Powerlifting DOTS calculator, which applies the official DOTS formula to let you compare powerlifting totals by bodyweight.
Statistically, DOTS is superior because it was built on a much larger, modern dataset of raw powerlifting totals. Wilks was based primarily on equipped lifting data from decades ago. When using a Wilks vs DOTS calculator, you will notice DOTS favors middleweights slightly more fairly.
300 is a solid intermediate milestone. 400 makes you very competitive at local and regional meets. 500 is a world-class standard.
No, the IPF uses their own IPF GL formula. However, almost all other major federations, including the USPA, have adopted DOTS.
